Musing Mondays (10/10)

This week’s musing asks…

What types of nonfiction do you read?

It's not often that I pick up a nonfiction book with the intent of reading really deeply into it, but much to the amusement of my elementary school teachers and librarians, I have a thing for a couple of nonfiction genres. :P
Mythology:
I have a passion for mythology (although this is not a genre I usually consider nonfiction), whether in a pure or diluted form(such as the Percy Jackson series). There's something of history and the way people lived in these stories and morals. Like the original Brothers Grimm fairytales, mythology can be harsh. This is definitely a huge factor in the way people lived so long ago.
History:
I am incredibly prone to dropping everything I'm doing at any given moment to conduct a huge research project.  This also amazed my teachers and librarians as I went to the school library and checked out several books that hadn't been checked out for 10 to 20 years. The Internet has become one of my better friends in these crazy endeavors: allowing me to find the information I ask for without reading books on the topic. Even today though, I pick up historical accounts on just about any topic semi-often.
And finally,
Books on writing:
Although I try not to bore you guys with tales of being a teen writer, I am one of the many, many teens out there today who long to write. NaNoWriMo coming up in November is an ever constant excitement and topic of dread. :P On Writing by Stephan King is one of my favorite books on writing, although it had little connection to the other books he's written. This is one book on my "must-buy" list.-C

Musing Monday (10/3)

This week’s musing asks…

What are you most excited about reading, right now? (can be a book you’re currently enjoying, or a book that’s yet to be published, etc.)

There's actually quite a few books I am really excited about reading, although very few of them are already on my bookself. To name a few,

Admittedly, most of these are available at my library downtown. It's definitely a trip I'll have to make soon (The library within walking distance to my house is much smaller than the one downtown.). And, it's time to make a book order soon-- as soon as I finish up a couple left from giveaways. :P

What about you? Let me know in the comments or link your blog. Thanks so much everyone! We appreciate you!! -C

Monday Musing (9/26)

This week’s musing asks…

What does it take for you to give up on a book you’re reading?

I very rarely, if at all, give up on a book. To the best of my memory I've only not finished two or three books. Although both books were works worth finishing, I simply didn't have the concentration to finish them. It's far too easy for me to lose interest in books when they're not developing their characters. I suspect, however, that my views are open to a lot of change in the near future. Although I read an extreme amount, reading on a deadline leaves a lot less wiggle room for indifference.

I'm really curious to hear others' opinions, especially those who book blog; leave your Musing Monday or link in the comments and I'll check it out. Thanks for stopping by. ;)-C

Musing Monday (9-12)

Hey everyone! Sorry for the huge lags on weekends and late posts on scheduled days. I'm trying to up on our output of weekend activities (too many ideas and so little time to write and code) but there's been enough substantial drama to put it off for at least another week. ;) Look for that coming soon (and hold me to it)!

This week’s musing asks… (Hosted by Should be Reading)

What is the one (or maybe two) qualities a book must have for you to pass it along to your best friend as a “must-read”?     Although I do pass on nonfiction, I usually only pass on fiction (and I'll answer for that). ;)

I'm most interested in passing on a book that's plot driven; I prefer to find and pass a book with full protagonists, antagonists, and a plethora of supporting characters. It also usually needs to catch my eye with certain details I recognize from the said friend's reading material and it's usually a book I want a second opinion on or a book I want to dote upon with a friend. ;P

If someone asks for a recommendation, however, I focus only on the general opinion I held of the book and what type or titles of books I've investigated they would be interested in reading.

What about you? Leave your musing in the comments or link your blog. ;) THANKS FOR STOPPING BY! -C

Musing Mondays (8/29 / 8/30)

Hey everyone! I just want to apologize for the late post. Even though this is our first Musing Monday, I'm going to go ahead and launch it late. I was uber sick yesterday, and I hope you, as our viewers, will forgive me. ;)

This week’s musing is… a book meme! (Hosted by Should be Reading)

What was the last book you…
• borrowed from the library?
"Elsewhere" by Gabrielle Zevin and "Peter and the Starcatchers" by Dave Barry
Don't forget to look for their reviews in the upcoming weeks, ;)
• bought?
"Malice" by Chris Wooding and "Specials" by Scott Westerfield
Don't forget to look for their reviews also in the upcoming weeks, ;)
• cried over?
Probably  "Will Grayson, Will Grayson" by John Green and David Levithan (some of my favorite authors)
• disliked and couldn’t finish?
Honestly, "Son of a Witch" by Gregory Maguire but rest assured, it's on my TBR list. ;)
• read & loved?
"Specials" by Scott Westerfield (Just finished reading it today. While I didn't exactly LOVE it, it changed my entire view on the series. :) )
• got for review? (or: got in the mail?)
Hmm,  currently nothing but shoot me an email if you're interested in sending one; I'll always get back to you within 24 hours. ;)
• gave to someone else?
I cannot reveal because it has not reached it's destination yet and it's a surprise. :p
• stayed up too late reading?
"Catching Fire" by Suzanne Collins ;P

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT sharing your feelings on any of the books up here or linking to your blog, you'll never be ignored! -C
